How it Works

Clemente At A Glance:

Numerous local, regional and national agencies work in partnership to offer a free college course in the humanities to low-income adults. For a full semester - 150 hours - students work with five different faculty to investigate ideas from US History, Moral Philosophy, Literature, History of Art and Critical Thinking and Writing.

The Clemente Course provides students, at no cost to them, with tuition, books, childcare, tutors, transportation and access to such resources as the WSU Computer lab.

Each graduate receives six fully accredited and transferable college credits from Bard College of New York.

Over 50% of Clemente Course graduates go on to attend 2 or 4-year colleges.

75% of Clemente graduates are off of welfare within one year of taking the Course.
